Media Mythbusters Blog » Blog Archive » Another Media Account Disputed While many people, including myself and most of my Soldiers, were at first apprehensive about working with these forces, we eventually realized that what occurred is what we had hoped for the entire time—the people grew tired of the violence and wanted to help the security forces rid the area of the enemy.
I think another aspect to this is the “strong horse” mentality that OBL talks about. As long as the Americans were sounding like we would cut and run, few local Iraqis would risk collaborating with us. Once we showed our determination to stand for stabilization, support for us became legitimate. This isn’t all that hard to understand. How many people have watched mob/gangster movies where the same mentality is portrayed?
